Bolt Action: Ford GPA Amphibious Jeep with US Army Crew

    , ,
Cross all kinds of terrain - even water - with the Ford GPA! A development of the ubiquitous Jeep, the GPA (commonly known as the ‘Sea Jeep’ or ‘Seep’) was intended to give US forces a lightweight amphibious utility vehicle to support beach assaults. Over 12,000 would be built, and around a third of these would go to Russia as Lend-Lease, with the majority remaining in US service across the conflict. The GPA is a great choice for any American Bolt Action force themed around an amphibious assault, or players with a fondness for slightly more unusual vehicles! On the tabletop, it’s simply represented by giving the standard US transport Jeep the Amphibious special rule for no additional points cost. This allows it to take up to three men across water-filled obstacles, providing extra tactical mobility and looking great while doing it! Soggy battlefield? No problem for the Ford GPA! Blister contains one resin and metal Ford GPA Amphibious Jeep with US Army Crew.

In many cases, they would be armed with either a .30cal or .50cal machine gun, allowing them to provide mobile fire support to US troops. This set gives you a trio of armed jeeps for your US forces - two with .30cal Medium Machine Guns, and one with a .50cal Heavy Machine Gun - allowing you to form an Armoured Platoon of these lightweight fighting vehicles. Bolt Action: M3 Lee Medium Tank

    , ,
Roar into battle with the M3 Lee Medium Tank! Entering American service in 1941, the M3 Medium Tank was designed to serve as an interim tank while the M4 Sherman was developed and put into production. Despite this, it was by no means a poor vehicle, boasting excellent mechanical reliability and powerful firepower, albeit in a somewhat archaic layout. This kit allows you to build the M3 (known to the British in this configuration as the ‘Lee’), a powerful Medium tank able to be fielded by US, British, and Soviet forces. You can build this vehicle with the earlier short-barrelled or later long-barrelled main gun - in games of Bolt Action we treat the M3 as a Medium tank with a 9+ damage value, armed with a medium anti-tank gun in the hull, and a light anti-tank gun in the turret, plus a medium machine gun! Whether you’re in the Western Desert with US or British forces, or equipping your Soviet troops with Lend-Lease armour, the M3 Lee is a great option! Few fighting forces rival the hard-won reputation of the US Marine Corps. Showing their mettle during the island-hopping campaigns in the Pacific, and then to pushing the enemy back to their homeland, the US Marine had few equals in WWII. Facing the deadly combination of the fanatical Japanese enemy and the sweltering jungle conditions in which they fought, the US Marine Corps triumphed in actions which have become legendary – Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and more. Within the claustrophobic confines of the hills and jungle environment over which they fought, the marines were reliant more on support weapons than on tanks. Medium machine guns like the M1917 and the 81mm medium mortar were vital to their success. Contains these metal models:

    Bolt Action: Oddball Heroes

    , ,
Rarely, if ever, have the words ‘war’ and ‘comedy’ somehow been so successfully combined as in MGM’s 1970 classic movie ‘Kelly’s Heroes’. However, the movie which was originally entitled ‘The Warriors’ underwent a major transformation process from its inception to its release, including the cutting of entire scenes and characters and the addition of extended action sequences. Several members of the cast and crew voiced their disapproval of the changes which altered a grittier war movie with depth of character and an integral romantic sub-plot into an action-packed, farcical comedy. However, the cult following which Kelly’s Heroes enjoys nearly 50 years later and the plethora of infinitely quotable lines is perhaps the best proof that the final cut hit the nail right on the head. We've taken information from the final cut of the movie, Burt Hirschfeld’s accompanying 1970 novel of the same name, (based heavily on the original script) and the real life history behind the units portrayed in the movie to bring a slice of Hollywood to your battlefields... Contains 8 metal miniatures. Also there's a superb bonus within every box of Oddball Heroes! Initially designated the M4A3(76)W HVSS but shortened to M4A3E8 (the E8 denoting the HVSS suspension), this medium tank was eventually nicknamed the 'Easy Eight' by the US soldiers who fought in and alongside them. The Easy Eight boasts several improvements over earlier M4 Sherman designs, such as the Horizontal Volute Suspension System (HVSS) and wider tracks, giving it better ground performance; welded hull instead of cast, giving better protection; and 76mm M1A2 main gun, putting it on par with the German 75mm guns. Includes one plastic 'Easy Eight' medium tank, Bolt Action stat card, Bolt Action Order Dice, assembly guide, full-colour waterslide decal sheet for US and Canadian vehicles and vehicle damage markers. This vehicle can also be used in games of Achtung Panzer!, the game of close-quarters tank-on-tank combat, its rules can be found in the Achtung Panzer! rulebook.

Bolt Action: US Army Winter Weapons Teams

    , ,
Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The American Bazooka was first used in North Africa and on Tarawa in November 1942. The M6 HEAT rocket could easily penetrate 76mm of armour at 30 degrees or 110mm at 90 degrees. The tasks of scouting and sniping were similar in American doctrines. Snipers were equipped with a telescopic sight on a M1903 bolt-action Springfield rifle, and also had close-combat weapons such as pistols and shotguns with which to defend themselves if discovered. Flamethrowers were used throughout the war, especially in the Pacific, to clear out tunnels and bunkers. During the Normandy landings, the number of flamethrowers was increased to allow the men to open a gap in the fortified lines. Contains the following Warlord Resin Plus figures:
    • 2-man Bazooka team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Flamethrower team

Anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The tasks of scouting and sniping were similar in American doctrines. Mortars were the most commonly available type of support weapon. Paratroopers and Rangers had one mortar per platoon, in addition to those that may have been assigned at company level. Bolt Action M8/M20 Greyhound Scout Car
Bolt Action M8/M20 Greyhound Scout Car

Bolt Action: M8/M20 Greyhound Scout Car

    , ,
The M8 Greyhound was a popular and successful 6x6 armoured car that served American and British armies well throughout the war. Its crew of four served a 37mm gun, a co-axial .30 cal, with the more aggressive crews adding a .50 cal on the roof for anti aircraft and local defence. It was used by the US army in Italy, Northwest Europe and the Pacific -in the latter theatre its 37mm gun made it an effective tank destroyer, the role for which it was originally designed. Replacing the armoured turret for a fixed, open fighting compartment, the M20 scout car was used primarily as a command vehicle, sacrificing the turrets main gun in favour of extra radio capability. In games of Bolt Action both variants are armoured cars (DV 7+) that can be included in Armoured Platoons. The M8 has a light anti-tank gun, coxial MMG and option to add an HMG, the M20 has an HMG. Both vehicles benefit from the Recce special rule. Contains:
    • 1/56th scale hard plastic US M8 or M20 armoured car
    • Instruction leaflet
    • Waterslide decal sheet

With some 113,000 units built in the UK and abroad, it was the most produced armoured fighting vehicle in history. Universal Carriers gave terrific service for British and Allied forces throughout the war and also saw good use in the Soviet army. The first version (M1A1) had two grips and a wooden support. By 1943 the new version was released which no longer had the front grip but had an improved electrical firing system. The final version was longer (1.55m) and improved the range from 200-250 yards to 300 yards. The M6 HEAT rocket could easily penetrate 76mm of armour at 30 degrees or 110mm at 90 degrees. Bolt Action: M3 Stuart Tank
    Bolt Action: M3 Stuart Tank

    Bolt Action: M3 Stuart Tank

    , ,
The Stuart stands tall, and was favoured by many crews due to its fairly high speed. It was mechanically reliable and obtained the nickname "Honey" due to its smooth ride. During 1942, the British Army decided to keep their Stuarts away from tank-versus-tank combat and instead use them for reconnaissance. A number of Stuart variations arose, including the Stuart Recce, the Stuart Kangaroo and the Stuart Command. Making a conversion of these is easy with the new plastic Stuart. The Recce had the turret removed in order to achieve an improved speed and range, while the Kangaroo had been converted into an armoured personnel carrier. The M3 proved itself as an effective armoured vehicle in jungle environments, where the Japanese infantrymen found themselves under-equipped and lacking anti-tank weaponry. This left them with only one option, which was to rely on close assault tactics. The Stuart was an impressive counter to this, and in this setting was barely any more vulnerable than a medium tank. This box contains 1 x plastic M3 Light tank with options to use:
    • 5 MMG
    • Flamethrower
    • External Fuel tanks
    • Sand guards
    • Rounded or plate turret variants

The paratroopers had a lighter version weighing in at 9kg and operated by a 2 man team.

Bolt Action: M10 Wolverine Tank Destroyer

    , ,
The M10's M7 3-inch (76.2mm) anti-tank gun was a considerable improvement over the 75mm carried by the Sherman. The M10’s relatively thin 37mm of armour (and open-topped five-sided welded turret) on the other hand made it vulnerable to anti-tank weapons, so its main role became defensive, often firing from concealed positions. The M10 was also widely used by the British, who called it the Wolverine. As such this plastic set comes complete with choice of US or British crew plus extensive decal sheets to gear up your tank hunters for action! In games of Bolt Action the M10 is a light tank with a heavy anti-tank gun. It can be included in armoured platoons. This vehicle can also be used in games of Achtung Panzer!, the game of close-quarters tank-on-tank combat, its rules can be found in the Achtung Panzer! rulebook.

Due to the relatively short amount of time at the front, and particularly because of the constant influx of replacements, regular US infantry units never got quite as ‘seasoned’ as those of some other countries that lacked the American manpower, training and organisation. But once they did, they became the iconic imagery for the allies - the 'soldier to be'. Determined and proud, they fought on in any situation, often to the last bullet. Tough as nails, you can give these vets any task and they'll be able to do it. They are not invincible so make sure they are supported, or advancing behind some form of cover. Better yet, give them some transport and get them to the objective asap!
