Bolt Action: Polish Infantry Squad in Greatcoats

    , ,
Despite facing the double invasion of their homeland in 1939 by both Germany and the Soviet Union, the vastly outnumbered Polish military fought with bravery and tenacity. The Polish army in 1939 was large, well-officered and relatively well-equipped. It fought hard, but was entirely outmanoeuvred by fast-moving German armoured thrusts supported by all arms in a new dynamic style of war that a largely foot-slogging Polish army could not match. When the Soviets joined the fight and also invaded Poland, bisecting the country, it was too much for an already over-extended army short of armour and air support to hold out against – the end was inevitable. The Poles put up a dogged resistance to the two invading forces despite, in some cases, being utterly outnumbered. There were many desperate actions where the Poles fought the invaders to a standstill, and the stoic infantry held their ground whilst their dashing Polish cavalry caught the enemy by surprise. Equipped with Mauser rifles, great coats, and standard polish uniform. Warlord sculptor Wojtek brought these heroes to life in full kit, fighting in the early autumn of 1939. Contains a metal 10-man Polish Infantry Squad:
    • 1 NCO with rifle
    • 1 soldier with automatic rifle
    • 8 riflemen

Bolt Action: Polish Army Support Group

    , ,
Polish HQ Considering the country’s location and involvement in major European conflicts for centuries, Polish officers came from a society that valued a proud military tradition. After the end of World War I, having freshly wrested its independence from neighboring powers, Poland was in a state of almost constant conflict. Most of the officers in Poland’s military were experienced and capable leaders. Polish Medium Machine Gun Team An almost exact copy of the American M1917 machine gun, the Polish military fielded its CKM wz.30 machine gun in a fashion similar to that of other European nations. It fired a 7.92mm round, like those utilized by most riflemen. Several thousand of these were produced for Poland’s armed forces during the build-up to World War II. The CKM Hotchkiss wz.14 was also used as was the CKM Maxim. Polish Medium Mortar Team Poland made use of 81mm mortars of similar design to most other nations at the time. These weapons were not as commonplace in the Polish Army as they were in other forces. Nonetheless, when available, they proved a reliable firing platform for the Polish crews manning them.

Bolt Action: Polish Army Weapons Teams

    , ,
Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, light mortar teams and anti-tank rifle teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. Like many other nations, Poland learned well the lessons of World War I, and saw the value in close-support mortar weaponry. Many infantry companies were issued 46mm light mortars to fulfil this close support role. The Polish Army didn’t include specially equipped snipers as such, but the best shots in a company would be designated as marksmen. The Polish wz.35 anti-tank rifle was unusual in that it did not fire a solid tungsten core round as did most other nations’ anti-tank rifles. Rather, it fired a standard lead core with a steel jacket. Instead of penetrating the hull like traditional anti-tank rounds, the transferred energy would cause spalling (making a piece of armour tear off inside the crew compartment) that lead to fragments ricocheting around the inside of the vehicle – a very nasty affair for the crew! Contains three Bolt Action Order Dice and the following Warlord Resin Plus figures:
    • 2-man Light Mortar team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Anti-tank rifle team

    , ,
Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. British forces were armed with 2-inch mortar for close support purposes. Two men were needed to operate it. An NCO was responsible for carrying and firing the weapon while the other carried ammunition. Weighing less than 11Ibs and offering an effective range of 500 yards, these mortars were quick to manoeuvre and deploy as needed. Snipers were armed with a SMLE No.4 Rifle equipped with a No.32 Mk.1 telescopic sight. The team carried fifty rounds of ammunition, five tracer round and fiver-armour-piercing rounds. Two No.36 Mills bombs or two No.77 smoke grenades were also carried, along with binoculars and a camouflage net. The portable flamethrower available to British forces was the Ack Pack. At a weight of 64Ibs, the Ack Packs could be carried and operated by one man. Fully loaded, the Ack Pack was capable of ten bursts each of a two second duration. With a range of fifty yards it was a truly fearsome weapon that excelled in clearing bunkers and buildings. Contains the following Warlord Resin Plus figures:

Bolt Action Sherman VC Firefly tank
Bolt Action Sherman VC Firefly tank

    Bolt Action: Sherman V (M4A4)

    , ,
Supplied under the Lend-Lease programme to Great Britain, the M4A4 was renamed the Sherman V by its new owners. The Sherman V would be the mainstay of the British and Polish armoured units during the later years of the Second World War and was also used by the Free French. This was the most numerous British tank. Its only downside was a high silhouette, but the Sherman made up for this with its reliability, ruggedness and numbers. Armed with a 75mm gun it excelled at supporting infantry and suppressing enemy guns, and though later outgunned by German heavies, the Sherman still gave a good account of itself in rare armoured encounters. In games of Bolt Action the Sherman V is a medium tank armed with a medium anti-tank gun that benefits from the Improved HE special rule, a coaxial MMG, hull mounted MMG and optional pintle mounted HMG. It can be included in Armoured Platoons. NB: this model is of a British Sherman V but can also be used as an M4/A1/A2/A3/A4 in US service. Contains:
    • 1 Hard Plastic Sherman V tank
    • Assembly Guide
    • Bolt Action Stat Card

Bolt Action Sherman VC Firefly tank

    Bolt Action: Sherman VC Firefly

    , ,
Sherman Firefly was a British invention that mounted the powerful 17 pdr anti-tank gun on a Sherman hull. Making its debut on D-Day with one Firefly per troop, it soon became highly valued as the only British tank capable of defeating the Panther and Tiger tanks it faced in Normandy at standard combat ranges. In recognition of this, German tank and anti-tank gun crews were instructed to attack Fireflies first. Over 2,000 were made, and by late 1944 numbers had increased to two per troop. Often known as the 'Charlie' tanks in the field because of the 'c' denoting them as rearmed with the 17-pdr, the nickname 'Firefly' was unofficial and referred to the huge muzzle blast. As with all Warlord plastic vehicle kits, the Firefly comes with its own sheet of waterslide decals with a variety of unit markings, tank names, and other identifying markings to give your model that additional touch of realism when it takes to the tabletop battlefield! In games of Bolt Action the Sherman Firefly is a medium tank with a super-heavy anti-tank gun with a reduced HE charge. It can be included in any British armoured platoon. This vehicle can also be used in games of Achtung Panzer!, the game of close-quarters tank-on-tank combat, its rules can be found in the Achtung Panzer! rulebook.

Tough, lavishly equipped and politically indoctrinated, SS troops formed over 38 divisions and numerous other regimental and battalion-sized units, totalling nearly a million men under arms. Their armoured units won many plaudits for their actions, and although relationships between regular army units and the Waffen-SS were sometimes strained, most SS units fought ferociously, against great odds until the wars end in Berlin, 1945. The Waffen-SS was a controversial organisation - their zeal and discipline could not be questioned although their many documented atrocities will perhaps be their greatest legacy. This boxed set contains 1,500 points of German SS-Grenadiers.

Bolt Action: French Renault R35 Light Tank

    , ,
Fielded in great numbers by the French army, the Renault R35 was used to support infantry formations as they battled the invading Germans. Designed to replace the antiquated FT-17 tanks, the Renault R35 was a small but well-armoured French infantry support tank. It would also see service with the French, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian and Yugoslavian armies! The R35 was slow but, as it was largely employed to support infantry, speed wasn't a key consideration, although its two-man crew were usually overworked in the cramped confines. Its armour was impressive for a tank of the early war period – up to 43mm. It had a low velocity 37mm main gun and a machine gun giving it good infantry support capability – the main role this tank was used in. Contains one resin & metal Renault R35 light tank with metal tank crewman, stat cards, damage markers, decal sheet and order dice.
