Black Powder: Anglo-Zulu War – Natal Native Contingent Regiment

    , ,
Largely being used as support for the Main British forces in South Africa they became the main defense force against the Zulu forces. Recruited from the local populace, mainly from the Basuto and Mponso tribes, this force excelled in dealing with Zulu due to an extensive history of fighting them. Given mainly menial labouring jobs they eventually saw action on the front with varying results, some fighting hard and to the last man alongside their British comrades, whilst others they broke alongside the NCO's. In either case, even if they fight today or tomorrow, they will certainly fight to the last. Providing support for the British army these loyal chaps are just the job whether you're looking to refight Isandlwana, Ulundi, or the other battles during 1879. Contains:
    • Enough plastic components to make 32 Natal Native Contingent.
    • A detailed Booklet containing the history and Black Powder profile of the Natal Native Contingent.

    This set contains:
    • 1 x British Airborne HQ
    • 1 x Field Medic
    • 1 x British Airborne Medium Machine Gun Team
    • 1 x British Airborne Medium Mortar Team
HQ The middle ranks of officers were almost invariably drawn from the upper-middle classes: educated in the public schools, instilled with the values of empire, and imbued with a sense of confidence, duty and resolve that is difficult to conceive of today. An officer unit consists of the man himself and can include up to two other men acting as his immediate attendants. Field Medic The field medic presents the wounded soldier with his best chance of surviving serious injury and can ensure those lightly wounded soldiers are returned to fighting fitness as rapidly as possible. Medium Machine Gun Team A .303 Vickers water-cooled machine gun offered fire support to infantry units. This was another weapon of World War I vintage that soldiered on through World War II and beyond, proving extremely effective at laying down continuous fire over a long range. A typical team consisted of a lance corporal gunner, a loader and an ammunition bearer. Medium Mortar Team The 3-inch mortar was used to provide support from up to 3,000 yards dependent upon the projectile used. The 3-inch mortar was operated by a crew of 3.

Bolt Action: British Airborne Weapons Teams

    , ,
Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. British forces were armed with 2-inch mortar for close support purposes. Two men were needed to operate it. An NCO was responsible for carrying and firing the weapon while the other carried ammunition. Weighing less than 11Ibs and offering an effective range of 500 yards, these mortars were quick to manoeuvre and deploy as needed. Snipers were armed with a SMLE No.4 Rifle equipped with a No.32 Mk.1 telescopic sight. The team carried fifty rounds of ammunition, five tracer round and fiver-armour-piercing rounds. Two No.36 Mills bombs or two No.77 smoke grenades were also carried, along with binoculars and a camouflage net. The portable flamethrower available to British forces was the Ack Pack. At a weight of 64Ibs, the Ack Packs could be carried and operated by one man. Fully loaded, the Ack Pack was capable of ten bursts each of a two second duration. With a range of fifty yards it was a truly fearsome weapon that excelled in clearing bunkers and buildings. Contains the following Warlord Resin Plus figures:
    • 2-man Light Mortar team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Flamethrower team

Black Powder: Chosen Men – British 95th Rifles

    , ,
The 95th Rifles were an elite unit of hard marching, sharp shooting light infantry that served in many bloody battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Unusually they did not wear the classic red coat of the British army, but instead a dark bottle green uniform which gave them their nickname of the ‘Sweeps’ or the ‘Grasshoppers’ by their French foes. They were equipped with the Baker rifle – a supremely accurate weapon for the period – which would hit single targets at ranges unheard of for the smoothbore muskets which most other troops carried. They earned a superb reputation in the Peninsular campaign and later at Waterloo, being battalions that Wellington could rely upon. To help maintain the effectiveness of the companies, reliable and trusted men would be issued with a white tape around the arm distinguishing them as ‘chosen men’ and expected to inspire the rank and file. To make up for the short length of their rifles, they were issued with wicked looking sword bayonets, long enough to give a parity against an enemy bayonet.

Bolt Action: British & Inter-Allied Commandos Weapons Teams

    , ,
Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, flamethrower teams and light machine gun teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. By their nature as specialist raiders, Commandos go to battle lightly equipped in terms of weaponry. However, they made good use of Vickers K machine guns - formerly aircraft-mounted machine guns - with their high rate of suppressive fire. These 2-man teams comprise a Vickers K gunner and his No 2 laden with extra ammo. Whilst marksmanship was a vital skill for all Commandos, those with a special aptitude for accuracy and field craft were often employed as snipers. In the early days of the organisation, snipers were employed on a more ad-hoc basis; later in the war they, along with their scoped rifles, were specifically listed in Commando tables of organisation and equipment. As well as being used for scouting and attacking enemy forces, snipers were also employed in pairs on landing craft to target enemy defenders during the run in to amphibious assaults and raids. For the assault on Normandy in June 1944, Commandos were issued backpack flamethrowers for clearing fortified positions on the beaches. The Flamethrower, Portable, Mk 2 carried enough fuel for approximately 10 one-second bursts and were quickly discarded after the initial stages of the assault. Contains three Bolt Action Order Dice and the following Warlord Resin PlusTM figures:
    • 2-man Vickers K LMG team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Flamethrower team

Bolt Action Sherman VC Firefly tank

    Bolt Action: Sherman V (M4A4)

    , ,
Supplied under the Lend-Lease programme to Great Britain, the M4A4 was renamed the Sherman V by its new owners. The Sherman V would be the mainstay of the British and Polish armoured units during the later years of the Second World War and was also used by the Free French. This was the most numerous British tank. Its only downside was a high silhouette, but the Sherman made up for this with its reliability, ruggedness and numbers. Armed with a 75mm gun it excelled at supporting infantry and suppressing enemy guns, and though later outgunned by German heavies, the Sherman still gave a good account of itself in rare armoured encounters. In games of Bolt Action the Sherman V is a medium tank armed with a medium anti-tank gun that benefits from the Improved HE special rule, a coaxial MMG, hull mounted MMG and optional pintle mounted HMG. It can be included in Armoured Platoons. NB: this model is of a British Sherman V but can also be used as an M4/A1/A2/A3/A4 in US service. Contains:

    Bolt Action: Sherman VC Firefly

    , ,
Sherman Firefly was a British invention that mounted the powerful 17 pdr anti-tank gun on a Sherman hull. Making its debut on D-Day with one Firefly per troop, it soon became highly valued as the only British tank capable of defeating the Panther and Tiger tanks it faced in Normandy at standard combat ranges. In recognition of this, German tank and anti-tank gun crews were instructed to attack Fireflies first. Over 2,000 were made, and by late 1944 numbers had increased to two per troop. Often known as the 'Charlie' tanks in the field because of the 'c' denoting them as rearmed with the 17-pdr, the nickname 'Firefly' was unofficial and referred to the huge muzzle blast. As with all Warlord plastic vehicle kits, the Firefly comes with its own sheet of waterslide decals with a variety of unit markings, tank names, and other identifying markings to give your model that additional touch of realism when it takes to the tabletop battlefield! In games of Bolt Action the Sherman Firefly is a medium tank with a super-heavy anti-tank gun with a reduced HE charge. It can be included in any British armoured platoon. This vehicle can also be used in games of Achtung Panzer!, the game of close-quarters tank-on-tank combat, its rules can be found in the Achtung Panzer! rulebook.

Bolt Action M8/M20 Greyhound Scout Car
Bolt Action M8/M20 Greyhound Scout Car

Bolt Action: M8/M20 Greyhound Scout Car

    , ,
The M8 Greyhound was a popular and successful 6x6 armoured car that served American and British armies well throughout the war. Its crew of four served a 37mm gun, a co-axial .30 cal, with the more aggressive crews adding a .50 cal on the roof for anti aircraft and local defence. It was used by the US army in Italy, Northwest Europe and the Pacific -in the latter theatre its 37mm gun made it an effective tank destroyer, the role for which it was originally designed. Replacing the armoured turret for a fixed, open fighting compartment, the M20 scout car was used primarily as a command vehicle, sacrificing the turrets main gun in favour of extra radio capability. In games of Bolt Action both variants are armoured cars (DV 7+) that can be included in Armoured Platoons. The M8 has a light anti-tank gun, coxial MMG and option to add an HMG, the M20 has an HMG. Both vehicles benefit from the Recce special rule. Contains:
    • 1/56th scale hard plastic US M8 or M20 armoured car

    • Waterslide decal sheet

    Bolt Action: British 8th Army

    , ,
Formed from the Western Desert Force in 1941, the British 8th Army comprised men from across the British Commonwealth - British, New Zealanders, Australians, Indians and South Africans. Following early successes against the Italians in North Africa, the 8th Army suddenly faced a new, more deadly foe - the Deutsches Afrika Korps led by their mercurial commander, Erwin Rommel. Thus began a series of operations with Allied and Axis forces being pushed back hundreds of miles only to regain that territory and more with battles at El Alamein, Tobruk and Beda Fomm becoming legendary. With the Allied victory in North Africa the fighting soon encompassed Tunisia and then the very heartland of Italy itself. Struggling against the oppressive daytime heat, choking dust and freezing cold nights in addition to battling their German and Italian opponents the 8th Army become more popularly known as the 'Desert Rats' - a nickname adopted from the 7th Armoured Division, a key component of the Western Desert force. This boxed set contains a multitude of parts and options allowing you to field soldiers as diverse as British, Sikh, Punjabi, Mosselman or Scottish. Bolt Action: M3 Stuart Tank
    Bolt Action: M3 Stuart Tank

    Bolt Action: M3 Stuart Tank

    , ,
The Stuart stands tall, and was favoured by many crews due to its fairly high speed. It was mechanically reliable and obtained the nickname "Honey" due to its smooth ride. During 1942, the British Army decided to keep their Stuarts away from tank-versus-tank combat and instead use them for reconnaissance. A number of Stuart variations arose, including the Stuart Recce, the Stuart Kangaroo and the Stuart Command. Making a conversion of these is easy with the new plastic Stuart. The Recce had the turret removed in order to achieve an improved speed and range, while the Kangaroo had been converted into an armoured personnel carrier. The M3 proved itself as an effective armoured vehicle in jungle environments, where the Japanese infantrymen found themselves under-equipped and lacking anti-tank weaponry. This left them with only one option, which was to rely on close assault tactics. The Stuart was an impressive counter to this, and in this setting was barely any more vulnerable than a medium tank. This box contains 1 x plastic M3 Light tank with options to use:
    • 5 MMG
    • Flamethrower
    • External Fuel tanks
    • Sand guards
    • Rounded or plate turret variants

    Bolt Action Churchill Tank
    Bolt Action Churchill Tank

    Bolt Action: Churchill Tank

    , ,
The Churchill, undoubtedly one of the most successful and famous British tanks of the Second World War. The British Army adopted a doctrine centered around the use of light, fast 'Cruiser Tanks' coupled with slow, better armed and armoured 'Infantry Tanks', that would be used to smash the enemy defences with infantry support... and the Churchill was a prime example of the latter - one of the heaviest Allied tanks of the war, it featured thicker frontal armour than that even of the Tiger! Although it suffered from being under-armed, a defect common to most British armoured vehicles of the period, it was nevertheless loved by its crews: its cross-country ability was unrivalled and it was less inclined to ‘brew-up’ from a direct hit than the Sherman. In this plastic kit from Warlord and Italari you'll get 7 turret variations (yes - we said SEVEN!) allowing you to build the following marks:
    • MkIII - with 6pdr gun
    • MkIV - Cast turret with 6 pdr gun
    • MkV - Cast turret with 95m Howitzer
    • MkVI - Cast turret and Welded turret with 75mm gun
    • NA 75
