Bolt Action: US Army M2A1 105mm Howitzer

    , ,
The M2A1 105mm Howitzer (re-designated M101A1 in 1962) was the standard light field howitzer in the US Army in World War II. Developed based on German World War I 105mm howitzers, it filled the need for a motor-drawn artillery to replace outdated guns and tactics. With a moderate range, soldiers appreciated its accuracy and powerful punch. Its main purpose was antipersonnel, but it was flexible enough to provide indirect fire as well This blister pack contains one metal gun with 4 crewmen.

Bolt Action Japanese Type 1 47mm Anti Tank Gun

Bolt Action: Japanese Type 1 47mm Anti Tank Gun

    , ,
The Type 1 47mm AT gun was developed following the Japanese encounter with Russian armour and was the first indigenously developed dedicated anti-tank gun. It lacked the performance of other contemporary weapons of similar calibre, but was deemed sufficiently capable against lightly armoured tanks. By the time it was introduced in 1942, it was therefore already outdated. The same gun was used as the main armament of the Type 97 Chi-Ha Shinhoto tank. It was also used by Japanese paratroops – dropped disassembled in separate containers.

Bolt Action: Japanese Teishin Shudan Paratrooper Squad

    , ,
Japanese paratroopers – Teishin Shudan (raiding group) – proved highly effective in the early years of the war. German successes with paratroops during 1940 encouraged the Japanese to develop their airborne arm as a constituent part of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (IJAAF). They were initially deployed in the Dutch East Indies during the Battle of Palambang in February 1942. A regiment of paratroopers dropped onto Palambang airfield, whilst another captured the town and its oil refinery. High casualties amongst the paratroopers discouraged further deployment by air, and the Teishin Shudan subsequently fought as elite infantry formations – much as their German counterparts did.

Bolt Action: Japanese Army Support Group

    , ,
The men of the Imperial Japanese Army were excellent soldiers, with extraordinary devotion to their country and their Emperor. Battle-hardened by years of war in Manchuria, the Japanese army was well-disciplined, led by seasoned officers, and watched over by the dreaded Kempei-tei political officers. Japanese soldiers gained an air of invincibility in the early years of the war as they conquered Thailand, British Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong, the Dutch East Indies, and most of the American Philippines. Fanatical loyalty and iron discipline were the core of the Imperial Japanese Army ethos, and although it didn't have the same level of heavy weaponry and vehicles as their Allied opponents they were well supported by the likes of the Type 92 medium machine gun and Type 97 medium mortar. Contains these metal models:
    • 2 officers with pistol
    • 1 Kempei-tei with pistol
    • 1 medic
    • 1 radio operator/spotter
    • 1 medium mortar team
    • 1 MMG team

Bolt Action: Japanese Special Naval Landing Force

    , ,
The Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces (SNLF) were the marine troops of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Due to the deep distrust the Japanese Army and Navy had for each other, joint operations were all but out of the question and the Navy created the Special Naval Landing Forces as a result. First seeing action in 1932 during the 'Shanghai Incident' of the Sino-Japanese War, the SNLF were highly trained, high quality troops with excellent morale. Each SNLF formation was named after the base in which it as formed. This plastic and metal set contains parts to make 32 SNLF. It includes plastic Japanese Infantry sprues plus metal parts with new heads for every model (including an officers tropical hat and a sailor's cap). The set also includes equipment packs including their distinctive gas-masks. There are also two new metal bodies as well as arms firing a pistol and wielding a ceremonial sword. The set is rounded off nicely with the full-colour sheets of flags and devotional banners - great to hang from weapons as they take Emperor's word to the enemy... Box contains 32 metal and plastic figures.

Bolt Action Japanese Bamboo Spear Fighter squad
Warlord Bolt Action Japanese Bamboo Spear Fighter squad

Bolt Action: Japanese Bamboo Spear Fighter Squad

    , ,
As the Second World War progressed, Japanese forces were pushed back from the territorial gains they had made in the early stages of the war. With Allied bombing and ground campaigns hampering Japanese industry the Emperor’s soldiers learnt to use whatever materials were at hand to face the enemy, as firearms and ammunition became ever more scarce. This would see Japanese soldiers sacrificing themselves with grenades, a courageous last ‘banzai’ charge with swords drawn, or using sharpened lengths of bamboo as makeshift spears. The fanatical devotion to their Emperor, their country and their honour led many brave Japanese soldiers to such lengths. Allied troops were both in awe and disbelief of such heroics as the Japanese assault would more often than not perish in the face of sustained Allied firepower. Yet still the Japanese attacked... The figures in this boxed set represent a squad of desperate but proud Japanese soldiers in the remnants of their uniforms, bedraggled and unkempt yet not bowed by their situation or likely fate. Banzai! Contains a 10-man squad:
    • 1 NCO with sharpened bamboo spear
    • 9 soldiers with sharpened bamboo spears
    • 10 plastic bases

Even the emperor is pleased with what this box contains:
    • Enough plastic components to make 1 Chi-Ha or the up gunned Type 97-Kai Shinhoto Chi-Ha
    • Damage markers
    • Full colour waterslide decal sheet
    • A Bolt Action stat card
    • A detailed booklet describing how to build and paint your Chi-Ha
With over 2,100 units made, the Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank was the second most produced Japanese medium tank of World War II, after the smaller Type 95 Ha-Go. It saw extensive action in the Second Sino Japanese War, the Battles of Khalkhin Gol against the Soviet Union, and throughout World War II. It was Japan's standard medium tank - although with a weight of only 15 tones, excellent speed and mobility, and no more than 33mm of turret armour and 26mm on the hull, it would be considered a light tank in any other contemporary army. The Type 97-Kia Shinhoto Chi-Ha in Bolt Action With 2 options in the plastic kit you're spoiled for choice, although we suspect many might opt for the up-gunned variant - the Type 97-Kia Shinhoto with the high velocity 47mm anti-tank gun in a new and larger turret from 1942.

Bolt Action: British & Inter-Allied Commandos Weapons Teams

    , ,
Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, flamethrower teams and light machine gun teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. By their nature as specialist raiders, Commandos go to battle lightly equipped in terms of weaponry. However, they made good use of Vickers K machine guns - formerly aircraft-mounted machine guns - with their high rate of suppressive fire. These 2-man teams comprise a Vickers K gunner and his No 2 laden with extra ammo. Whilst marksmanship was a vital skill for all Commandos, those with a special aptitude for accuracy and field craft were often employed as snipers. In the early days of the organisation, snipers were employed on a more ad-hoc basis; later in the war they, along with their scoped rifles, were specifically listed in Commando tables of organisation and equipment. As well as being used for scouting and attacking enemy forces, snipers were also employed in pairs on landing craft to target enemy defenders during the run in to amphibious assaults and raids. For the assault on Normandy in June 1944, Commandos were issued backpack flamethrowers for clearing fortified positions on the beaches. The Flamethrower, Portable, Mk 2 carried enough fuel for approximately 10 one-second bursts and were quickly discarded after the initial stages of the assault. Contains three Bolt Action Order Dice and the following Warlord Resin PlusTM figures:
    • 2-man Vickers K LMG team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Flamethrower team

Initially designated the M4A3(76)W HVSS but shortened to M4A3E8 (the E8 denoting the HVSS suspension), this medium tank was eventually nicknamed the 'Easy Eight' by the US soldiers who fought in and alongside them. The Easy Eight boasts several improvements over earlier M4 Sherman designs, such as the Horizontal Volute Suspension System (HVSS) and wider tracks, giving it better ground performance; welded hull instead of cast, giving better protection; and 76mm M1A2 main gun, putting it on par with the German 75mm guns. Includes one plastic 'Easy Eight' medium tank, Bolt Action stat card, Bolt Action Order Dice, assembly guide, full-colour waterslide decal sheet for US and Canadian vehicles and vehicle damage markers. This vehicle can also be used in games of Achtung Panzer!, the game of close-quarters tank-on-tank combat, its rules can be found in the Achtung Panzer! rulebook.

In June 1940 the American army asked for a vehicle that could "go-anywhere". Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The American Bazooka was first used in North Africa and on Tarawa in November 1942. The M6 HEAT rocket could easily penetrate 76mm of armour at 30 degrees or 110mm at 90 degrees. The tasks of scouting and sniping were similar in American doctrines. Snipers were equipped with a telescopic sight on a M1903 bolt-action Springfield rifle, and also had close-combat weapons such as pistols and shotguns with which to defend themselves if discovered. Flamethrowers were used throughout the war, especially in the Pacific, to clear out tunnels and bunkers. During the Normandy landings, the number of flamethrowers was increased to allow the men to open a gap in the fortified lines. Contains the following Warlord Resin Plus figures:
    • 2-man Bazooka team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Flamethrower team

Anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The tasks of scouting and sniping were similar in American doctrines. In the US manual it was clearly stated that the duty of a sniper was to kill enemy officers in order to damage the morale of enemy troops. Mortars were the most commonly available type of support weapon. Paratroopers and Rangers had one mortar per platoon, in addition to those that may have been assigned at company level. Normally they were deployed in a suitable rear position, no further than 100 yards from the observer in order to ‘cover the most dangerous approaches to the platoon area’.
