Black Powder Napoleonic Polish Line Light Horse Lancers

Black Powder: Napoleonic Polish Line Light Horse Lancers

    , ,
The Poles have been excellent horsemen for generations and in their innumerable clashes with Russia had learned to fight the lance-armed Cossacks, equipping themselves with a 9-foot wooden lance with a wicked spear point and coloured guidon beneath the blade.
    • 12 plastic easy-build Polish Line Light Horse Lancers.
    • Additional Polish metal heads.
    • 1 additional metal officer and metal horse.
    • 1 optional metal arm for a bugler.
Lancers were technically light cavalry but considered themselves the equal of better-mounted troops by dint of the dispiriting lance which would outreach enemy Sabres and enable them to dispatch infantry who ran or feigned death. These fine models in their fabulous uniforms could be fielded in a single brigade or of course placed in regular light horse brigades for added colour.

Black Powder Epic Battles: American Civil War Union Cavalry & Zouaves Brigade

    , ,
With their dashing, brightly coloured uniforms the zouave light infantry regiments were involved in all major American Civil War battles. There were several renowned zouave regiments in Union service such the 14th Brooklyn, Fire Zouaves and Duryée's Zouaves. Fighting on horseback and armed with pistol, sabre and carbine, the role of cavalry during the civil war was more as mounted infantry, reconnaissance and patrol units rather than the shock cavalry of previous eras. Skirmishers were an important element of armies of both sides, providing skirmish screens for main units and harrying enemy flanks. This plastic set provides enough models to field a complete Union brigade comprising one zouaves regiment of 100 men, a regiment of cavalry, a regiment of dismounted cavalry and a regiment of skirmishers.

Black Powder: American Civil War – Zouaves Regiment

    , ,
March into battle with style with these dashing American Civil War Zouaves! At the time of the American Civil War, all things French were fashionable in military circles – in particular the dashing uniforms of their Zouave colonial light infantry! Clad in extravagant, flowing pantaloons, ornately decorated jackets, and a variety of jaunty headgear, over 70 regiments would be raised by the Union, with a smaller number in Confederate service. Often beginning as light skirmishing infantry, some would convert to regular line troops (frequently due to a lack of suitably fancy replacement uniforms), while others would remain as Zouaves throughout the war. Zouave regiments often saw themselves as something of an elite fighting force, and many units earned deserved reputations as fierce and determined fighters. No Black Powder American Civil War collection is complete without a unit or two of Zouaves, and these gorgeously detailed Warlord Resin figures are perfect for both Union and Confederate forces, adding a splash of colour and vibrancy to your battleline! Box contains 24 Warlord resin figures (including command group), plastic bases, MDF Snake Fence scenery, cap badge decal sheet and full-colour flag sheets for both Union and Confederate troops.

Black Powder Epic Battles: American Civil War Union Brigade

The most basic infantry building block was the infantry regiment (referred to as a “battalion” in Hardee’s drill manual, which was used by both sides). In both North and South the infantry regiments were organised on similar lines. A regiment typically comprised ten companies, each numbering 100 men, supported by staff, drummers and officers. However, the rigours of warfare would summarily lead to a reduction in strength by way of battle, disease and desertion, and a regiment's numbers could vary wildly. The states of the north had a tendency to allow regiments to fall below an effective level, to a point where a number of such regiments would be forged into a brand-new formation. This sometimes had a detrimental effect as units lost their identities and their associated fighting spirit. The most common identifier for a regiment was a number and the State in which they were raised – for example, the “15th Alabama” or the “4th Connecticut”. This box contains enough miniatures to make:
    • Three Regiments (of 100 men each)
    • Three Cannons
    • Three Mounted Commanders

Black Powder: Vive l’Empereur! (French Peninsular Veterans)

    , ,
Murdering their way out of a Spanish prison hulk, Chef de battalion François Léon de Rochebaron and his loyal band of followers began their journey into infamy. After the brutal experience at the hands of his Spanish captors, the once honourable de Rochebaron swore unwavering vengeance on the enemies of France. Thus the legend of the 'The Butchers' of the 73rd Line Regiment was born. In battle, no quarter was ever given as they became the scourge of the Spanish peninsular. It was only when les Bouchers met an English battalion at Grijo in 1809 did they finally meet men who could match their ignoble method of waging war. During the battle, De Rochebaron fought a bloody and protracted duel with an English Captain, matched in its viciousness by the scrap at their feet between his beloved poodle, Fifi and the British mongrel, Duchess. While all combatants survived this encounter, they swore to meet again and settle the matter. Cast in the finest Warlord Resin, these superb miniatures are dripping with character – from the vengeful, Rochebaron down to the regiment's mascot, Fifi the poodle.

The 3rd Battalion of Detachments, struck from all official records, exemplified Brigadier General Alan Campbell’s view, “I have collected several detachments of recovered men belonging to Sir J. Moore’s army, whom I found scattered in all directions, without necessaries, and some of them committing every possible excess that could render the name of a British soldier odious to the nation.” During the Douro campaign and capture of the city of Oporto in 1809, the 3rd Battalion had its first taste of action near the village of Grijo. There they crossed bayonets with the infamous French regiment, les Bouchers (the Butchers). The bloody encounter was also notable for the savage dog fight between Duchess, the 3rd’s bull terrier mascot, and the French poodle, Fifi, both animals leaving their mark. These exceptional miniatures are oozing character and cast in finest Warlord Resin are a must for any self-respecting (and those not quite so self-respecting) Napoleonic British wargamer.

Black Powder: American Civil War – Artillery Battery

By the time of the American Civil War, artillery had become a deadly arm on the field of battle, used in huge numbers by both Union and Confederate armies. Some pieces were still old-fashioned muzzle-loading smoothbores similar to those fielded to such great effect during the Napoleonic wars. However, many more were superbly accurate rifled pieces capable of propelling shrapnel shells to 2,000 yards and more. If hard-pressed, guns could use canister at deadly close range to sweep away attacking troops. Box contains 3 Warlord Resin American Civil War guns with 4 crew each and a variety of gun barrel options (3x Union 12-pdr Napoleon, 1x Confederate 12-pdr Napoleon, 1x 12-pdr howitzer, 1x 10-pdr Parrott rifle, 3x 6-pdr Napoleon & 1x 3-inch ordnance), MDF Snake Fence scenery and cap badge decal sheet.

Black Powder: American Civil War – Infantry Regiment Advancing

    , ,
In many civil wars in history, both sides were equipped in a very similar fashion with the colour of their uniforms and the flags they fought under being the identifying features. This was no different for the forces of the Union and the Confederacy in the American Civil War, and these miniatures, advancing with their firearms in ‘right shoulder shift’ are equally suited to be painted as either a Union or Confederate regiment. Wearing dark blue tunics, light blue trousers and armed with percussion rifles, the Union soldiers learnt how to manoeuvre and march great distances to take the war to the south. Early regiments were of mixed quality with few having drilled before, let alone seen active service of any note. By the war’s end they were a tough and efficient fighting body of men, a match for their adversary, ‘Johnny Reb’. Confederate regiments were tough, with many in their ranks used to privation and familiar with firearms. This was just as well, as compared to their northern foes in the Union they were frequently poorly equipped, fed and armed – much of their equipment was taken from Federal prisoners or privately purchased. The better maintained troops favoured the Enfield muzzle-loading rifles if available, but many types of rifles were used during the war, even old flintlocks in reserve units. Ragtag they may look, but southern troops had a spring in their step and were renowned for their quick and terrifying charges, many emitting the unearthly, ululating ‘Rebel Yell’ to unnerve their ‘blue belly’ opponents. Box contains 24 Warlord resin figures (including command group), plastic bases, MDF Snake Fence scenery, cap badge decal sheet and full-colour flag sheets for both Union and Confederate troops.

Black Powder: American Civil War – Glory Hallelujah! Supplement Book

    , ,
‘Glory Hallelujah!’ – the American Civil War 1861–1865 supplement for Black Powder. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the fledgling United States of America. Years of seething hostility between the North and South boiled over as the Southern States saw Lincoln’s election as a direct threat to their rights, and the nation fell apart as a new Confederacy was formed in the South. The Confederacy, striving to assert its independence, opened fire on the Northern troops occupying Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbour on April 12th 1861. Determined to preserve the Union, Northern troops headed south and on to Richmond! Over the next four terrible long years American armies tramped across American fields and burnt American farms as Americans killed Americans in a war the likes of which the nation had never seen before. The epic battles fought during the American Civil War proved beyond all doubt that war can be ‘all hell’. This supplement for Black Powder describes the history, armies, key leaders, doctrine and tactics of the American Civil War, and includes a comprehensive set of army lists and optional rules for recreating the battles of that war in miniature.

Destruction and flames from on high – that’s the Congreve style, and it’s a powerful addition to your British Black powder force! Designed by Sir William Congreve in 1808, based on rockets captured from the Indian state of Mysore, the eponymous Congreve rocket consisted of a sheet-iron tube filled with gunpowder, tipped with an explosive shell, and mounted on a long wooden rod. These would be fired from racks or frames, and while somewhat unreliable and at times frighteningly inaccurate, they had the great advantage of being both powerful, terrifying, and far easier to transport and supply than the equivalent battery of cannon. Used in increasing numbers throughout the Napoleonic Wars, they would grow in size and capability into a truly deadly weapon. This brave rocketeer and his fiendish devices are ready to rain fire and terror on the foes of your British Black Powder force – if he can score a hit! This pack contains one Rocket Bombarding Frame with four crew, cast in metal.

Black Powder: Napoleonic Spanish Infantry 1st Battalion (1805-1811)

    , ,
Napoleon Bonaparte's seemingly invincible French army suffered their first defeat of the Napoleonic Wars at the hands of the Spanish Army at Baylen in 1808. This was arguably the zenith of the Spanish army’s achievements during the wars. History has not looked back favourably on the armies of Spain during the Napoleonic Wars. They suffered many defeats but also pinned down huge numbers of French troops in a vicious war that sapped the strength of innumerable French units only too glad to leave a country where they were so hated. Although the vicious Spanish guerrillas wreaked havoc upon their French foes the Spanish regulars also caused thousands of casualties on their home soil. Box Contains:
    • 25 Warlord Resin Napoleonic Spanish Infantry miniatures
    • Background leaflet with 12 full-colour flags
    • Plastic Bases
Original price was: £29.50.Current price is: £23.60.

Black Powder: Chosen Men – British 95th Rifles

    , ,
The 95th Rifles were an elite unit of hard marching, sharp shooting light infantry that served in many bloody battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Unusually they did not wear the classic red coat of the British army, but instead a dark bottle green uniform which gave them their nickname of the ‘Sweeps’ or the ‘Grasshoppers’ by their French foes. They were equipped with the Baker rifle – a supremely accurate weapon for the period – which would hit single targets at ranges unheard of for the smoothbore muskets which most other troops carried. They earned a superb reputation in the Peninsular campaign and later at Waterloo, being battalions that Wellington could rely upon. To help maintain the effectiveness of the companies, reliable and trusted men would be issued with a white tape around the arm distinguishing them as ‘chosen men’ and expected to inspire the rank and file. To make up for the short length of their rifles, they were issued with wicked looking sword bayonets, long enough to give a parity against an enemy bayonet.
