Bolt Action: M4A3E8 Sherman Easy Eight

    , ,
Initially designated the M4A3(76)W HVSS but shortened to M4A3E8 (the E8 denoting the HVSS suspension), this medium tank was eventually nicknamed the 'Easy Eight' by the US soldiers who fought in and alongside them. The Easy Eight boasts several improvements over earlier M4 Sherman designs, such as the Horizontal Volute Suspension System (HVSS) and wider tracks, giving it better ground performance; welded hull instead of cast, giving better protection; and 76mm M1A2 main gun, putting it on par with the German 75mm guns. Includes one plastic 'Easy Eight' medium tank, Bolt Action stat card, Bolt Action Order Dice, assembly guide, full-colour waterslide decal sheet for US and Canadian vehicles and vehicle damage markers. In June 1940 the American army asked for a vehicle that could "go-anywhere". The answer was the four-wheel drive Willys MB and the Ford GPW, both models referred to as 'Jeeps'. 630,000 jeeps were produced by the end of the war. Developed for reconnaissance and liaison duties, the jeep was well suited to a variety of roles and was even used in airborne landings, as depicted here with the remastered Airborne Jeep for Bolt Action!

Bolt Action: US Army Winter Weapons Teams

Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The American Bazooka was first used in North Africa and on Tarawa in November 1942. The M6 HEAT rocket could easily penetrate 76mm of armour at 30 degrees or 110mm at 90 degrees. The tasks of scouting and sniping were similar in American doctrines. Snipers were equipped with a telescopic sight on a M1903 bolt-action Springfield rifle, and also had close-combat weapons such as pistols and shotguns with which to defend themselves if discovered. Flamethrowers were used throughout the war, especially in the Pacific, to clear out tunnels and bunkers. During the Normandy landings, the number of flamethrowers was increased to allow the men to open a gap in the fortified lines. Contains the following Warlord Resin Plus figures:
    • 2-man Bazooka team
    • 2-man Sniper team
    • 2-man Flamethrower team

Anti-tank teams and flamethrower teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The tasks of scouting and sniping were similar in American doctrines. In the US manual it was clearly stated that the duty of a sniper was to kill enemy officers in order to damage the morale of enemy troops. Mortars were the most commonly available type of support weapon. Paratroopers and Rangers had one mortar per platoon, in addition to those that may have been assigned at company level. Normally they were deployed in a suitable rear position, no further than 100 yards from the observer in order to ‘cover the most dangerous approaches to the platoon area’. , ,
The Skoda-designed 100/17 Modello 14 was medium howitzer that contributed to much of the Italians’ artillery strength. As a whole, Italian artillery was a piecemeal collection from a previous era, although crewmen were well trained and made the most of the guns they served. The bravery of the Italian artillerymen on the Eastern Front was legendary, often firing over open sights at the approaching enemy in an attempt to stem the Soviet tide. Contains one metal weapon and four crew.

The 47/32 was a licensed Austrian light artillery piece that primarily served in an anti-tank role. When firing HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) rounds, the 47/32 was an effective anti-tank platform in the earlier stages of the war. With a low silhouette (made even lower by the removal of its wheels, a common practice) and relative high mobility, the Elefantino proved itself in battle time and again. Contains one metal weapon and three crew.

Whether it is an artillery battery miles away from the battlefield, a naval gunship out to sea, or a ground attack aircraft high above the fighting, such weapons systems would be much less effective without the services of well-trained forward observers. Each infantry division was assigned its own artillery support assets in the Regio Esercito, and although many of the artillery pieces and aircraft were outdated, they were nonetheless quite lethal under the right circumstances. Given the firepower these forward observers could bring to bear on their targets, their neutralization was a high priority to opposing commanders. Contains three metal figures.

Infantry weapons teams are a key component of any Bolt Action army, providing as they do great tactical flexibility for your force. Sniper teams, anti-tank teams and light mortar teams are among the most prevalent, presenting your opponent with multiple challenges to overcome. The Solothurn anti-tank rifle was a cross between a true anti-tank rifle and a light anti-tank gun. Featuring a light wheeled carriage and a magazine-feed, the Solothurn could achieve a rate of fire of up to 20 rounds per minute. The Italian army had no specialist sniper rifle, and the relatively light-weight Carcano Model 1891 with its small calibre bullet was not ideally suited to the role. However, in the hands of a skilled marksman the weapon would prove deadly enough. The Brixia 45mm light mortar was a powerful and successful weapon in the hands of properly trained soldiers. Its rate of fire was higher than similar weapons employed by other nations, and its accuracy was also unparalleled. Box contains:

With typical Italian panache the Bersaglieri, with their helmets sporting the distinctive black capercaillie feathers, were easy to identify on the battlefield. This support group provides stylish officers along with a medic treating his wounded colleague and a spotter who can be used as an attendant radio operator for your commander. Providing suppressing firepower are the workhorse medium machine gun of the Italian armed forces, the Breda Modello 37 and the robust 81mm Modello 35 medium mortar providing indirect fire capability. Highly trained marksmen and superbly fit soldiers, the Bersaglieri (sharpshooter) were easily identified by their helmets, sporting large black capercaillie feathers. As light infantry troops they were encouraged to have a greater level of independence and initiative than the regular Italian army troops and this élan served them well during the war. During World War II the Bersaglieri became a focal point of Italy's push towards mobile warfare. Several units of these highly motivated, aggressive troops were equipped with bicycles or motorcycles to fight alongside the Italian armoured and motorised divisions. Bolt Action: Italian Army Guastatori Destruction Group

At the start of Italy’s war, the Italian Army had no assault engineering units designed to take on enemy fortifications. The performance of pioneer units in the German blitzkrieg demonstrated to the Italians the need for such units, leading to the creation of the Guastatori del Genio which began training units in late 1940. By early 1941 these specialised assault engineers were fighting in North Africa, and by mid-1942 they were also on the Eastern Front. During the Sicilian campaign the 11th Guastatori Battalion was attached to the ‘Livorno’ Division, fighting alongside them throughout the campaign. Contains 10 metal Italian Guastatori miniatures:
